Enhancer Creation Request

Softly muttering under her breath, she swore that never again would she work at midnight, but when one requested healing magic, the best source was often Mother Earth, and so, Mother Earth deigned that she worked best at midnight once her daytime creatures were sleeping.  The moon high overhead, she was following her instincts.  Thin bronze bracelets clinked together softly on her wrists, a small bag carried with her over a shoulder, a hand axe was sheathed at her waist, and walking boots were quickly carrying her over the land.

She was following her instincts as well as the clinking of the thin bracelets about her wrists.  Gifts from a being of the earth herself, that possessed more magic than Brianne could even imagine unlocking.  As she walked through the dim-lighted darkness, a lone tree arose in the distance, the moon giving it a spotlight all its own.

The request had been for a staff, and Brianne’s prayer for guidance had been answered easily enough.  Adjusting the hand axe at her waist, she moved across the meadow and towards the large, elderly oak tree.  Its limbs grew tall and tangled and wiry.  Feet stepped around the ancestor tree three times before Brianne took hold of one lower limb and began to pull herself up.

Once on that first branch, the climbing was easier, and she moved up another teen feet higher in the branches.  Blues looked out through the woven maze and over the quite meadow.  Sways as she did so, a foot slid from the branch and she dropped down to the next one, bumping her shin on one particularly deformed branch.  A hand grasped at this branch and the clinking of bracelets could be heard clearly in the silent night.

Ensuring herself she was in a secure position, she began hacking away with the hand axe at the base of the branch.  Chop!  Chop!  Chop!  came the deep sounds over the meadow.  Nearly off, she sheathed the axe and covered the blades, pulling the branch to break it from the tree.  A bit of the bark still holding it together, Bri gave a good yank and it came loose, along with her footing as she fell backwards towards the ground.

She did not, however, end up there immediately.  Stopped short of the earth, her body crashed against something much cushier and a whole lot more furry.  One hand holding onto the branch tightly, the other ran through the thick, course fur, eyes going wide as she rolled off of the big bear and to the ground.  Backing away from it slowly, she only stared as it raised its large, boxy head and let out a loud groan, causing Brianne to run and start running as fast as her legs could carry her away from the large beast.

After running for a little under a mile, she fell leaned her back against a tree, breathing heavily and trying to catch her breath.  Scared out of her wits by the bear, she started to calm down, looking around her and smiling softly as she had ended up in a small clearing that the moon’s light drifted in through the intertwined branches overhead.  Crossing one leg over the other, she fell to sit down Indian style, pulling free the small axe once more and after removing the blade coverings, she worked with the wood, cutting off the small twigs on it as well as smoothing it out as best she could.  A song was softly hummed as she worked, concentrating on her task at hand as well as seeking the presence of the earth below her, wishing for strength and healing energy to flow from the dirt below her, through her body, and into the now-forming staff in her hands.

She worked until she was satisfied with the smoothness and cut of the staff, the end deformed enough that it hooked at the end for a nice handle.  Laying it out before her, she pulled free her compass, tipping it this way and that to catch the moonlight as she aligned herself to face north, now adjusting to kneel for the sake of her reach.  The staff was set perpendicular to her; then she reached into her pack to draw out a small flat object, a well-worn piece of rock crystal with the symbol of earth endowed upon it.

With this talisman in her hand, she carefully drew into the earth before her the symbol of the Gurahl, one of earth’s creatures with great healing energy and which had made its presence felt very much this night.  One stroke drawn from the middle to the top; the start of each stroke was fat and wide while the end landed in a thin tip.  A second stroke was made to cross the first, moving in a curve from left to right and bowing out from herself.  A third and fourth were made to cross below the first two, not touching, with the start of each next to the fat end of the first.  The crystal placed to the side, she pulled free the small pouch at her waist, using the salt crystals to fill in the symbol.

The pouch was then placed to the side as Brianne’s hands were laid on the ground beside the symbol, her eyes closing as she whispered a soft prayer.

Guardian Angel Ariel, hear my call.
I have a request to make of you,
If it is your will to aid your creatures of this land.

This branch of oak has been given by the tree,
Aged and wrought, it sought to aid us.

Please grant your healing magic to empower this staff,
Your healing magic that the wielder may heal others.

Eyes still closed as her voice felt silent, she felt the bracelets upon her wrist jangle together faster and faster, the earth softly quaking beneath her small form.  Her blues slipped open just slightly at first, watched as the staff was rising above the ground, glowing softly of its own accord with the salt crystals dancing about it in the air.  Only for a brief moment did she look before her eyes closed again, waiting for the magic to halt.

The earth quieted about her, the bracelets clicking twice more, and then just once, followed by silence.  Opening her eyes, she saw the staff was back on the ground, the salt crystals gone, the symbol of the Gurahl wiped clean.  Reaching out, she felt the fresh magic that now empowered the staff on her soft flesh.  A smile crested her lips and she picked up the staff, knowing that Ariel had indeed blessed it.

Picking up the rest of her items, she softly whispered Thank you to the being she was sure was present before turning and making her way back towards home.  The staff would then be wrapped carefully in a soft blanket and tied up tightly before being delivered to the Healers Administration Headquarters.
